Why eye skincare needs special attention

As you can probably tell by just looking in the mirror, the skin around your eyes is more thin and fragile than the skin on the rest of your face. Because of its fragility, this skin is more sensitive to dryness, as well as showing signs of aging. Simple face movements such as squinting can cause fine lines and wrinkles to form. Also, fluids easily collect in this soft tissue, which causes puffiness and dark circles. Basically, the skin around your eyes is soft, and it needs a little extra love to keep it looking clear and glowing.

Common eye problems and ingredients that could help

  • Puffiness

As we briefly mentioned above, eye puffiness is caused by a buildup of fluid on the eyelids or under the eyes. One ingredient that has been shown to help decrease puffiness is caffeine. Now, don’t go chugging all the lattes, but having caffeine in an eye cream or serum could help to decrease your unwanted puff.

A quick FREE trick you could try at home, is the cold spoon method. Simply place a spoon in the freezer until it is cold, then place on your eyelids and/or under your eyes. The cold spoon will work to shrink the vessels that contain the extra fluid, resulting in reduced puffiness! If we didn’t get enough sleep the night before (and it’s showing), we love to use this quick solution.

  • Dark circles

Dark circles are extremely common and are caused by many things, such as aging, sun damage, lack of sleep, genes, and so on. Many people try to minimize, get rid of, or hide their dark circles because they make them look older or tired. Ingredients that can help lessen the appearance of dark circles are Vitamin C, Niacinamide, and Hydroquinone. Chemical peels also work wonders on reducing dark pigmentation under the eyes.

If you’re interested in trying out another FREE temporary fix, try placing green tea bags under your eyes! Steep two green tea bags, let them cool, and then squeeze out extra liquid. Place the bags under your eyes for 15 minutes and you might notice your dark circles aren’t quite so dark! The caffeine and coolness of the green tea bags work to shrink the vessels that cause the dark circles, and it helps with puffiness too!

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

The first fine lines and wrinkles to appear on your face are likely to be around your eyes. Again, the skin there is so fragile, it is easily shaped from even just smiling and laughing. Also, as you age, your skin produces less collagen, which helps to maintain your skin’s firmness and elasticity. When your skin produces less collagen, it can result in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. A few ingredients to help reduce their appearance are Vitamin C, peptides, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and retinol. Botox also helps to reduce the appearance and prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles as it reduces the strength of the muscle contractions that stress the skin and form fine lines.

Eye care treatments for the best results

If you’re looking to up your eye skincare game to either treat or prevent the appearance of the common eye problems, then consider these treatments:

Retinol is a key ingredient for age-defense skincare as it helps to stimulate collagen production, which, as we said earlier, starts to decrease as you get older. This eye cream was specially created to target the aging of the skin around your eyes. Our Eye Cream with Retinol has a retinol-, vitamin-, and peptide-rich formula that work together to strengthen capillaries, increase circulation, and boost collagen production to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, dark circles, and puffiness, leaving you with a brighter and fresher complexion.

If your main eye concern is fine lines and wrinkles, and you are tired of relying on temporary fixes from skincare products, then consider Botox anti-wrinkle injections. These injections are used to relax muscles, which help to both prevent fine lines from forming, and improve the appearance of ones you already have. This in-office treatment takes less than 15 minutes, and you will start noticing results in just two to seven days.

Again, if you’re looking for a more long-lasting solution to fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, then fillers could be the answer. While Botox works to relax the muscles, fillers contain ingredients that add volume where they are placed. When we get older we lose volume, that’s when we start noticing our skin isn’t as full as it used to be, and fine lines and wrinkles begin to form. A common treatment area is under the eyes, and fillers are used to replenish the volume that has been lost. (Please note that if you tend to get puffy under eyes, then under eye filler is NOT recommended for you because they may puff more.)

Another treatment option for helping to firm the area under your eyes is CoolPeel, which is a CO2 Laser treatment. The CO2 CoolPeel device works to rejuvenate your skin, reduce fine lines, and target sun damage, which will make your eyes look years younger. It also improves skin texture and balances skin tone. The lasers target just the superficial layer of skin tissue, and damaged skin is removed, revealing younger and healthier looking skin with no real downtime.

Whether your goal is to prevent fine lines from forming or to get rid of the fine lines you already have, or if you’re trying to decrease your dark circles or puffiness, we hope this helps you learn how to give your eyes the love they deserve.
