Looking Tired? Try These Easy Hacks Today

We know how you feel, Minted Beauty: sometimes we get super busy and we start to cut corners on sleep. With the adrenaline of running around to complete your never-ending to-do list, you may not even feel particularly tired. But then it happens: you’re minding your own business, walking into a dinner party, or to meet a friend for coffee, and someone utters those dreaded words, “You look tired!”

Brandi Gregge, founder of Mint & Needle

Generally, when people seem to think we “look tired,” it’s a result of fine lines, dark circles under the eyes, or a general puffiness. It’s not always true that these things are caused by lack of sleep, but they can be. Whether your response is, “That’s strange, I’m actually sleeping okay,” or “I am exhausted, thanks for noticing,” we’ve got your back.

Check out these simple hacks for keeping your skin bright and smooth, especially while you’re running at full steam:

Vitamin C

Vitamin C brightens and evens skin tone, which can help give your look a lift. It is particularly helpful for producing collagen, which makes sure your skin is looking tight and healthy. Our Vitamin C Serum is excellent as a mainstay in your skin routine.

If you already use Vitamin C daily in some form (we hope you do!), our Peptide C&E Growth Factor is fabulous for adding an extra boost to your skin’s texture and tone. This formula combats wrinkles while also increasing firmness and elasticity with major collagen production (and it’s a great stocking stuffer, if we do say so ourselves!).

Vitamin C is also key for maintaining energy levels—we don’t just drink orange juice in the morning because it’s nice with breakfast. A deficiency in Vitamin C can cause an overall dip in energy and produce feelings of fatigue. So make sure you’re getting your vitamins one way or another!

Hydration

Sometimes the appearance of fine lines or a general “dip” in appearance can just be the result of dehydration! Your skin holds moisture in all its layers, and when the deeper layers aren’t provided with adequate moisture, your skin can appear dull, dry, irritated, or “tired.”

Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, especially on dry winter days and particularly hot summer days. Then make sure you’ve got some hyaluronic acid in your skincare routine to pull moisture back into the skin, giving it a brighter and bouncier appearance. If you don’t already have our H.A. Hydrator in your routine, you’re in for a treat—this moisturizer packs in four different forms of hyaluronic acid to absolutely maximize your hydration.

If you’re looking for a deeper treatment to counter lots of “tiredness” at once, our Skinwave Hydrating Facial is the perfect solution. This five-step facial majorly boosts hydration while reducing inflammation—like those puffy eyes we talked about—and provides overall skin health benefits. Plus, it’s super relaxing, and if you’re also feeling tired these days, you deserve a break!

Collagen

Any treatment that stimulates collagen production will be a lifesaver for sunken eyes. The area under the eyes is very delicate, which means it quickly shows decreases in collagen and elastin as we age.

Collagen Induction Treatments like microneedling, RF microneedling, and CO2 laser peels are incredible for banishing those dark circles. Each of these services breaks down tissue in the skin so that it can grow new, young cells full of collagen and elastin—resulting in beautiful bright eyes!

It’s recommended that Minted Beauties receive one of these Collagen Induction Treatments at least once a year, to make sure your skin is properly breaking down old cells and generating new ones. They all have slightly different benefits, so you can read more about which microneedling treatment is right for you or what you’ll get out of a CO2 laser treatment, and then book your annual appointment!

P.S. If you’re still working on your holiday shopping list, do you know what the best part of gifting a treatment is? No shipping! Mint & Needle gift cards—redeemable on treatments or products—can easily be printed from your email and wrapped—or you can just forward them along on the right day!

Tea Bags

Did you know green or black tea can help reduce any blueish coloring around the eyes? It turns out that the blue tone is just an increased visibility of the natural blood vessels around your eyes. When we’re tired, the skin below our eyes becomes more transparent, allowing the blood flow underneath to show through. The caffeine in tea bags can sink into the skin far enough to constrict blood vessels.

Steep two tea bags in boiling water for three minutes. Then, remove and squeeze the excess water from the bags. Allow them to return to room temperature or put them in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. Finally, rest the bags on your closed eyes for 15 minutes, but no longer than 30 minutes.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can improve skin quality by increasing cell turnover and helping to stimulate collagen production. As discussed above, collagen is key for looking alert! And both of these processes result in skin looking brighter, younger, and less wrinkled.

One of the best parts of chemical peels is that they’re customizable: based on your skin’s needs and your goals, our providers will recommend a specific peel and apply it accordingly. Whether your skin is naturally dry, oily, or somewhere in between, there is a chemical peel out there for you!

Botox or Filler

Perhaps the most obvious option, Botox and fillers are great ways to decrease wrinkles around the eyes and give a lift to that thin, pale under-eye skin. The best part is they’re the most long-lasting of all these solutions—no daily application, just one appointment for weeks or months of benefits!

As we age, the skin under our eyes naturally gets thinner in addition to seeming pale when we are tired or sick. So fillers can plump that area back up, taking years off our appearance. Plus, fillers last for six to 18 months, so you’ll keep those bright eyes through tired and rested days alike. (However, if you tend to get allergies in the spring, keep in mind that fillers could cause you to look extra puffy by then—so under eye fillers might not be the solution for you!)

Adding Botox around the eyes will help decrease lines and wrinkles like crow’s feet that may be causing us to look worn down. At Mint & Needle, our goal is for your Botox to leave you looking refreshed, energized, and as young as you feel. Learn more about our Botox services.
